Import Friday – Dogfish Head’s 60 Minute IPA

January 15, 2010

Dogfish Head Brewing is pretty famous for their “off-centered beers.” 60 Minute IPA was preceded by the 90 Minute IPA, one of the beers that helped Dogfish Head gain their reputation. 60 Minute IPA earned its named by being hopped continuously throughout a 60 minute boil. To keep the 60 theme going it has 6.0% alcohol and 60 IBUs.

60 Minute IPA pours a light copper with a small head.

The aroma is much lighter on the hop side than you would imagine. Mostly citrus aromas with a pineapple smell being the main source of the citrus smell.

A slightly malty body comes through leading to a almost medium body, a little lighter than I like in my IPAs. It’s kind of sweet and it feels like it comes from the hops, which also add a citrus and pineapple flavour. This is followed by a slight bitterness and light drying, but still kind of sweet feeling.

Its a nice beer, but a bit too sweet for me. I think it would be best suited for a hot summer day. I can’t ever see myself buying it again, as Red Racer IPA from Central City is much better, readily available and cheaper. That doesn’t detract from that this is a Good beer.
