BC Beer – Hermannator Ice Bock

May 23, 2010

A perennial favourite of mine and many, many Victorians. Ice Bocks are pretty rare. Only 37 are in BeerAdvocate’s database. We’re lucky to have one in BC. You can thank Vancouver Island Brewing for this. And I can thank the awesome dudes at Darby’s Liquor Store for mine. The two gentlemen I met there were knowledge and friendly. Then even pointed me to a nice quiet spot on the beach where I could enjoy my BrewDog Hardcore and read a couple of chapters of Pete Brown’sHops and Glory.’

Hermannator is the darkest of brown, little head forms that quickly turns into a small collar around the glass. Aroma of raisins and plums soaked in alcohol served on top of a sweet caramel. Toffee, treacle, licorice, flecks of coffee and chocolate all add themselves to the flavour. A full body that leaves a dark fruit-like sweet finish.
