BC Beer – Howe Sound Mettleman

June 10, 2010

A delicious, malty, copper ale brewed in limited quantities every spring. Made with 100% barley, hops, water & yeast. Named for the Canadian epic Squamish Test of Metal Mountain Bike Race, a 67km single track race that features 800 riders and an array of community volunteers to make it Canada’s most successful grassroots mountain bike race.

Hockey’s on. Let’s make this quick.

I never know what to expect when I beer labelled as a copper ale or amber ale. But with Howe Sound I usually expect something good contained in those large, yet attractive, bottles. My expectations were met. Mettleman is at first nice smooth, mellow, malty ale. Nice subtle flavours of caramel, toffee and nut. After the initial malt the hops start to kick in, a gentle spritzy fruit. Mettleman is all about smooth, subtle flavour, and lots of it.
